Bob and Roberta Smith (UK)

There is a mix of nostalgia and the impossible in Bob & Roberta Smith’s work made especially for this year’s Tempo catalogue. By making use of our ability to imagine, this work presents three concerts with world-renowned artists in the Bryggeparken, set in the Seventies. But there is an element of the real in this project too, because the concerts are presented by Klubb 44, a club organizer who operated in Skien at the time. The tickets as paper objects are something we are not used to anymore; they have been transformed from decorative and contextualizing elements in our relation to music to become pure function. Now they are papers of confirmation, streamline-delivered through machines from ticket sales and distribution companies. The result is that we get identical looking-tickets to different concerts. The project proposes a discussion on how access is granted or denied, and to what extent there is openness to non-identical access cards.
