TO: / FROM:
Kristina Müntzing’s work TO:/FROM: takes at its starting point a very different park to Bryggeparken. Named after the exiled president of Argentina and eager city developer Bernardino Rivadavia, Parque Rivadavia was where the population of Buenos Aires sought refuge during the financial crisis at the beginning of this century. Not able to keep their houses, they moved into the park, which then became a mixture of homes and furniture shops. Müntzing’s modules resemble furniture but in spite of the handles they are almost impossible to move. By juxtaposing this contemporary historical detail, in the form of text, with constructed moving-crates, she calls attention to our concept of the home. Made in collaboration with Kalle Brolin.
About Kristina Müntzing
Kristina Müntzing works with the combination of the audience’s preconceived ideas about images and objects, and a reworking of these. She addresses the relationship we have to our personal histories and to the people around us. The last few years she has spent longer periods of time in Tallin, Estonia; Berlin, Germany and Buenos Aires, Argentina. This has naturally rubbed off on her work.
Kristina was born 1973 in Helsingborg, Sweden. Today she lives and works in Gothenburg, Sweden. She graduated from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2002, and she had her latest solo exhibition at Galleri Ping Pong, Malmö, Sweden in 2007. Together with Kalle Brolin she organized a screening of recent Argentinian art videos as a satellite project to the 2007 Gothenburg biennale, Gothenburg, Sweden.
